Nakuru, Kenya Home Community Care Center

‘Little Lambs' Project

Project as of now: We have invested through private donors over the past two years around $8,000 USD. With this money we have purchased approximately 5 acres of land, built the initial house that was housing the care givers and 50 children, which they have been using as their home, school and kitchen but as you see by reading through this article the numbers of children have grown. We brought a HIV+ Women's group out to them from the nearest town, Nakuru , Kenya . These women are now the teachers of education, arts and crafts, growing of crops that are creating a self sustaining system and growing all the time.

We have 100 orphans that live at the new site. These children ranging from ages infant to 16 make this their habitats. What they are still lacking is clean water, nutrition, education, a larer place to live and most of all Love. There is in place a Volunteer Women and Girls Support Group that have formed up to create arts, crafts and HIV/AIDS Educators. These are all people doing fantastic work dedicated to the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The project has become self sustaining to some of it needs but is growing so expansion is a must.

Proposal: The Church had supplied the space and the food for these children for over a year but didn't have space to house them or the resources to expand for classrooms. The church has continued to assist with food. The property a joining the church is quite a large parcel of land and of that is what has been purchased for housing and a school that is being built. With the land also they are growing their own crops, which is helping with feeding the children and supply a source of revenue to accommodate other expenses. The cost for housing and classrooms is minimal $8,000 USD made this happen so far. This sum will need to be more so to be used to complete the three buildings: Housing, Schoolroom and Kitchen. The location is just off the main road from Nairobi to the Northern Providence . The possibility of roadside shops for produce, fish or arts/crafts as a form of self-sufficiency is readily available and being utilized.

Vision: Start Date: November 2004. Was to establish the facility, to move the Women's Group out to the site to give them a place and be Teachers at the Orphanage. Of course all of this adds up to the Little Lambs having a place to be. With this vision we would create jobs, give many their self-esteem back, form a proper school for children lost to AIDS, set an example to the community for support and to end the Stigma and Discrimination attached so often to the AIDS virus. As this is a venture that has a need assessment in place to be a model to connect other groups in the Providence we have plans to expand projects like these immediately. As a consulting agent to the nearby Regions we have plans to bring Education, Nutrition and Health Care to those most at need and the community at large.

Where we are March,2007. The groups are in place; the orphans are waiting; now all we need is your help.
